We’ve all heard about doing “the work” with the inner child.  But do you know there isn’t just one?  Or should I say, only one personality of the inner child. There are a few…maybe many, depending on your lessons this lifetime.

The first time I saw my inner child was at the end of a yoga class in relaxation.  I was thinking about seeing a “friend” right after class and it was making me happy.  My little girl was dancing around me and I perceived that dancing to mean she was happy. She wasn’t.

She was trying to get my attention.  I didn’t figure that out for another year or so. She wasn’t happy with me.  She was attempting to show me that I was not paying attention to her needs, only my own at the time.  When I took her in and told her I loved her and that I was sorry, the healing began.

Another time I saw my inner child was doing some work on “the split” in my life. It was during an EMDR session.  I saw the moment in my childhood when I split into two (3 if you count the real me).  The masculine inner child was forcing the feminine little girl in me to go with him. She didn’t want to. She was afraid. I did my work on bringing the two together, somehow, but only years later.

The most recent time she stood before me with her arms folded, refusing to change. An especially challenging time for me, but I took her in again, told her how much I loved her, apologized for not recognizing her needs, and asking her to trust me once again.

It’s not enough to recognize our inner children, we must pull them in and love them as we love ourselves.  They are a part of us.  A piece that we have turned away from.  A part that we have been refusing to see and change.

Let’s replace the word challenge with change.  Begin to bring the dark into the light. That dark is you.  How could you not help but LOVE you?!

It is my pleasure to be of service.  I am open to comments and questions.  How do you acknowledge your inner child?
